Say What? I’m not a salesperson (and I don’t want to be one)”. Here are the top 5 things you can do now, to change your mind and your results.
Are you in sales? Of course you are– we are all in sales. Maybe you don’t realize it, or just don’t want to be. But, think about it:
If you have to convince your kids to do their homework at night… you might be in sales.
If you meet your soulmate, and want to invite him to dinner with you … you probably are in sales.
If you own your own business, no matter what that business is … you are definitely in sales!
It’s understandable that we don’t like to think about ourselves as salespeople. We have a stereotype of “born salespeople” as extroverts with the gift of gab. They are self-interested, manipulative and push us to buy things we don’t really want. No wonder we don’t want to put ourselves in that group!
But, in reality sales is really just about helping people get what they want—products or services that will add value to their lives.
Here are a few tips for successful selling:
- Listen to your client or customer. You have two ears and one mouth…use them in that proportion.
- It’s not about you. Find out what is important to your client.
- Once you know that matters to your client, you can see the value your offering can bring to them and communicate that more clearly.
- Don’t forget to the make “the ask”! 65% of salespeople never ask for the order. If your product or service would bring value to the customer’s life, you are really doing them a disservice if you don’t ask.
- Don’t quit. Pay attention to your own motives and feelings to make sure that you’re not sabotaging your own success.
